Do you really need CRM software?

CRM software covers a wide range of business functions. It means different things to different people. Depending on your role, the size of company you work for, what works for one business does not necessarily mean it is suitable for everyone else.
For large enterprises CRM software brings customer management across multiple departments allowing collaboration and a complete view of customer interactions.
The CRM software to facilitate this is normally a large scale deployment with expensive customization to fit the specific ways the business runs. Success is in part down to the software but equally it is reliant on user adoption and having the business processes in place to make the most of the CRM software.
Yet many smaller businesses or departments confuse the CRM software required for large companies to function with their own specific needs. There is a belief that as long as you have CRM software full stop or with all the bells and whistles then it will automatically bring success.
Yet do a quick search and you will find numerous blogs full of stories of expensive, and lengthy CRM implementations that left the client with a feeling of disappointment.
In many of these cases this is not the fault of the CRM vendor. The truth is if you have a specific need then you would be much better looking for a CRM software solution that can address it.
For small companies this might be no more than a centralised database of customers with the ability to write notes and diarize events – Contact Management CRM
For some the need will be a more specific business objective – say bringing accountability to marketing efforts, improving lead follow-up, or may be help desk support.
You see there is a difference between CRM software, they are not all the same. Many have areas of expertise or focus that they are designed to specifically address.
Research shows that companies who define their needs and then select a CRM tool that can specifically address them, get a far better return and ultimately view there CRM as a success.
